What Kennedy Didn’t Say
by Mara G. Shearer
We
choose
to
go
to
the
Moon
in
this
decade
and
do
the
other
things
not
because
they
are
easy
but
because
they
are
hard
are tasked to
the less-travelled,
reach for Mars or
farther,
step back in time
Apollo way, use the
as a stepping stone;
need of a compass for
in our unsung sixth
in space,
scarred by human loss,
we risk or do we not
challenge of a Mars shot?
ideas may come and go,
work out, others might
but to soar we promise
our brightest and best,
give their all and
last to rest;
goals are fine to achieve
harder ones do more, they teach;
in moving our souls to seek, to strive,
widen our world, swell hearts with pride;
we to turn our backs on progress when
decisions now may bring triumph next
