Echoes Through the Vacuum
by WC Roberts
aim the ears; angle the orbitals
toward the deep field
listening
for echoes
swing past the oblong egg
of the heliosphere
living probes, grandfather tech
to explore beyond the boundaries
we have known
a Rubicon of data
the pulses, binary wonder
dreaming of the cradle and the bough
tap into the heady stream
view the monitors; hear the howl
interpret the static
taste the welling pride as they continue on
and savor the delight
echoing back from the edge
to revive our deadened wonder
